so i just remembered something about the middle school i went to, patapsco middle school.
i started middle school a few days after everyone else since i had just returned from trip to china before 6th grade, so my first week in middle school, i couldn’t find my homeroom class every morning since the entire school was shaped like a giant donut. various pods branched out from the donut, including the gym and the cafeteria, and the media center was in the center of the building, with four entrances on different sides of the circle. unfortunately for me, my homeroom was one of the classrooms also in the center of the building…so i could never tell where it was…
in seventh grade or so, in an effort to reduce congestion, someone got the idea of making traffic go in one direction around the school. so basically, if your next class was in the pod maybe 30 feet to the left of your current class’s pod, you would have to walk around the entire circle to get to class. your travel would be extended even more if your locker was in a suboptimal location. and you weren’t allowed to cross through the media center. and the funny thing is, teachers actually enforced the rule.
just brilliant.
